Welcome to the Offical ILSFA Website
The International Land-Based Shark Fishing Association is the first and only association to certify, issue and maintain world records for sharks caught and released.
The ILSFA was originally conceived by its founder, Sean Paxton, in 2000. Over the next few years, he further developed the concept with his Brother, Brooks. On Memorial Day, 2006, with the support and involvement of some of the world's most accomplished big game anglers, including the founding father of recreational shark fishing, Frank "the Monster Man" Mundus, the Association was formally launched.
The Associations mission is, “To unify the uniquely challenging sport of Land-Based Shark Fishing and its anglers by establishing standards for the compilation and recognition of world records for released sharks; while also promoting, through research, education and practice, the responsible enjoyment and stewardship of our marine and coastal resources through an established standard of best practices and a promoted sustinability ethic."
